WINDOWBREAKER selected for SBIFF

Windowbreaker has been selected to play at the 22nd Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Santa Barbara hosts 200 features, 50 shorts, and numerous panel discussions over the duration of their fest.

The festival runs from January 25th to February 4th, 2007. We will post showtimes when the festival releases them.

WINDOWBREAKER selected for the SFIAAFF

We are pleased to announce that Windowbreaker has been selected to play at the 2007 SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL. SFIAAFF is run by the Center for Asian American Media (formerly NAATA), and the largest Asian American film festival in North America.

The festival takes place March 15 - 25, 2007 in San Francisco, Berkeley and San Jose. We'll post up our showtimes when SFIAAFF releases them on their website.

WINDOWBREAKER AT SUNDANCE 2007

Windowbreaker has been selected to play at Sundance this January!

From indiewire.com:

"A total of 71 short films will screen at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival (January 18 - 28, 2007), representing 19 countries. This year's roster, selected from 4,445 submissions, will include a selection of films that are screened online via the Sundance website for three months (January 18 - April 18, 2007). The lineup (listed in full below) is grouped into six categories, showcasing both U.S. and international dramatic, documentary, and animated work."

We are showing in the US dramatic section.

If anyone knows anybody who will be at Sundance this year, please contact us. We will be rolling with about four or five people, and we're eager to meet other filmmakers.

We will also be participating in Sundance Online from January to April, so we'll make a post when it goes live.

Hey everyone, we're proud to announce that Windowbreaker will be screening at Symphony Space as part of the New York City Shorts Festival. They recieved 876 submissions this year, and only chose 40, so we're very happy we got in.

Hey everyone -

The website for COLD FEET, WET DREAMS, AND THE KITCHEN SINK is now up. COLD FEET is our newest short film, produced by Collective Act in association with Sasquatch Films. It was shot on 35mm in Brooklyn, and has a running time of 7 minutes. Bishop Allen and Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum did the soundtrack.

WINDOWBREAKER at Woodstock Film Festival

Windowbreaker will be showing at the Woodstock Film Festival as part of the "Mom... Pop?" shorts program.

HALF NELSON OPENING

I recently painted the poster for the film HALF NELSON written, produced, and directed by my friends Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. It opens next week in New York at the Lincoln Plaza cinemas and the Angelika. The movie rocks, so go see it. Anna and I went to college together, and Anna recently edited Windowbreaker, my short that's currently going around to festivals.

Here are some pictures from the opening on August 2nd at the Tribeca Cinemas. Ryan Gosling and Anthony Mackie (who are amazing in the film) were both there, as were two of my filmmaking heroes Peter Sollett and Eva Vives (director and producer, respectively, of Five Feet High and Rising and Raising Victor Vargas).

While we were premiering at Anthology, I also managed to take these pics of me next to film canisters holding what I have to assume is the newly restored 205 minute directors' cut of Andrei Tarkovsky's masterpiece Andrei Rublev. As Bob says in the movie What About Bob?, "There are two kinds of people in the world - those who enjoy the seminal works of Andrei Tarkovsky, and those who don't." He either said that about Tarkovsky or Neil Diamond, I can't remember which.

So, DOCUMENT premiered this week at the Anthology as part of their quarterly NEWFILMMAKERS series. We had a packed show but I really have no idea who anybody was except Paul Landefeld, my buddy from college, and Bern Cohen, who played Mr. Donovan in the film.

2005: THE YEAR THAT WAS

Hey all, so - I thought it would be easier to put all film news about The Complications here at blogspot. If you're checking this out for the first time, you can look at previous posts at www.thecomplications.com. The Complications used to be the moniker used by Tze and Sheila when they were a directing team. Since 2004, Tze has been using The Complications as his production company name. This blog will mainly be used for news and screening dates.

I know we haven't updated our website in over a year. We are gearing up for an update to include the newest projects by The Complications.

It's been so long since our last post, I don't even know where to start.

Sheila has been living in LA for the past year, working at Rocket Science films and also freelance. She's writing a pilot right now and she recently returned to New York to executive produce Cold Feet, a 35mm short written and directed by Tze and produced by Collective Act.

Tze spent most of this year writing. He polished his script Superpink, and wrote three features. Superpink got finalist in the writemovies.com screenwriting competition. Is Columbia Burning? got quarter-finalist in Slamdance and semi-finalist in the writemovies.com contest. The Bedford Boys, co-written with Paul Bercovitch, is currently being sent around to agents. Tze is also co-writing a feature script with Mr. Michael Lawrence Weiss. That script has made it to rough draft and will be undergoing revisions through July.

Tze has also been spending time writing his mother's memoir, tentatively titled Our Dark Beginnings. The book is about Ms. Goh's childhood growing up as an orphan in a Singapore brothel. His family is going to Singapore in September to do further research.

World War II in Color (now called Back to the Front) was scored by Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum and recently got into the Long Island International Film Festival. Document will be screening at the Anthology Film Archives in New York in early August as part of their NewFilmmakers program. You can view trailers for both these films at www.collectiveact.org.

In December of last year, Tze shot a short film in Boston. Windowbreaker is about a string of burglaries in a suburb of Boston. It stars Raymond Zhang, Fiona Chen, Ai-Cheng Goh, Bryan Wilson, Trung Tang, Emily Lodish, and Jeff Bellin.

Windowbreaker is currently being sent out to festivals, so keep your eyes peeled. So far we've only heard back from The Long Island International Film Festival, where it will be screening July 17th. There is also an article about the film in the June 16th issue of The Sampan, Boston's bi-lingual newspaper. You can check the article out at www.sampan.org.

In April, Tze directed his most ambitious project to date, Cold Feet, Wet Dreams, and the Kitchen Sink. The project was produced by Joshua Schwartz and Collective Act Productions. Sheila executive produced, and acted as assistant director on set. Cold Feet was shot on 35mm with a budget of 15k, and is currently being edited by Rob Ryang of PS260 (a high profile post-house). Rob Ryang is also the mastermind behind that fake Shining trailer that's been floating around the internet for the past few months. Cold Feet stars Joe Pistone (of Ed Burns' The Groomsman), Emily Lodish, and Bryan Wilson.
